Gartloch was a beautiful Victorian general hospital, built in 1889 - it closed in 1996, and parts have now been redeveloped into the usual soulless executive village. Some bits are still untouched - the development has stalled.

There are a couple of ward buildings - all pretty decayed:

However, there's one jewel in the crown - the main hall, which is, though decaying rapidly, still stunning:

Amazing pictures, not tackled anything on this scale before!!

Mind if I ask what lense you used, must have been a wide angle of some sort?

Cheers!

NB

Was Gartloch a general hospital? I thought it was a lunatic asylum from the start, not that I've breathlessly researched it, but it just has an 'asylum' look about it and I know it was an asylum latterly.

I'll have to go for a proper look before it's gone.

That lens is mental! I played with one on a full frame Canon in Jessops once. It was tempting to get one for use with my cropped sensor 20D but as I have no plans to go full frame any time soon, I opted for the cheaper (and wider for APS-C) Sigma 10-20mm EX.

Lost - I thought it started of as a general hospital, but I could be wrong about that - it was definitely an asylum later on.
