The Alice Burrows care home was opened in 1967 and provided residential care to 38 physically frail older people, it shut in 2007.

The demand for ordinary residential care is declining, as more people choose to stay as independent as possible for as long as possible. As council's areproviding more resources to support people in their homes and setting up Extra Care Housing, so older people are increasingly choosing not to enter traditional residential homes. It is part of council's Older People's Strategy to meet this changing demand, and it is recognised that this will mean less demand for residential homes.

Had a quick recce of the site on my way into work and even though its pretty well steel shuttered noticed a possible access. Returned later and drove straight to the entrance put on the fluro coat and hard hat and made like I was supposed to be there. Lots of curtain twitching and was confronted by two ladies on the way out, made my excuses and left.

The place is in very good condition and has no internal chav/pikie damage even though they have had a go at the lead flashing on the roofs.

Cool, looks in better nick than I was expecting. I'm amazed the pikies havent destroyed the place being in the location it is. I like the commode, there's always something comical about them.

Hey Mark,

Think its in not too bad an area certainly surrounded by a lot of houses, loads of net twitching whilst I was there, and two blue rinsers waiting by my car:confused:, dont know what they were going to do if it were a couple of pikies, but at least there keeping an eye on it.

They're rampant in those parts, I bet the blue rinse crew have had a few. Went fishing with a mate on the holy brook up the road, a half hour later his window had been popped, for the sake of four cans of kronenburg. Well done for finding it mate, I'm always surprised at how far I end up driving when theres stuff local.

How far down the road is it then?
