History

The present buildings were erected in 1949 and production ceased in 1991. The quarry dates back to 1851 and cement was manufactured on the site since at least 1898.

Visited the distribution centre on the west where all the bagging up of the ground cement took place. Also toured the bus graveyard. Went with my husband, son (who tried out some HDR for his photography course)and fellow explorer Gullible Dave.

The east side visit was a month later - see other report.

I thought these were pretty good for Luke's first go at HDR - not too over the top.

Thanks for looking.

Great stuff! Both sides of the site have been in purgatory since I can remember. I think they ramped up the security on the East side the last 15 years or so. Funny that it was my local turf and I've never really been there to take pics. As for the West side I recall walking through it and it had quite a few mouldy mobile homes down there and some kids on dirtbikes acting like knobs at one point. Will have to get down there in the future. Thanks for posting!

Great shots there. Localish to me but have yet to go there. The bus graveyard looks cool but is it full of free living hippies?

Lots of great old buses and fire engines, plus some cars. Only people that side are mechanics who restore some of the vehicles. They didn't blink an eye at us mooching around. Used to be gypsies there at one time but not now.:)

This is nice to see I only got to see the vehicles on this side because an alarm off some sort was placed on the fence of the building that you've done so I moved straight over the road to look at those big pipes.

Really nicely captured, I like the HDR.
