After a tip of from a friend, I deciede to go and check this one out. Turned out to a funny old place, not much in the way of externals, but lots to be seen inside. I have searched high and low but can't sadley find anything about it. Yes it had a fire a few years back, but thats it for the moment. Wondering round the building there was a mix of stuff left behind from old returned transmiter cans to what i beleive was to be things left over from the war. Certinaly stuff from the mid 50's and things related ROF Elstow. This was a really mixed lot of things left behind also electronic equipment. Most of what is left has now rusted away or smashed up by the locals.

On with the photos

Thanks for looking

Nice stuff, Crazy to see those indication dials just sat there, shameful how they've been left.

That's a great find mate. Some lovely bits there and really well photographed. Well lit too, that can't have been easy. Really enjoyed that, cheers!

Why is it shameful? Obsolete military surplus is largely useless to anyone.

Great treasure trove to find though!

You're right maybe an overly abrasive choice of wording, that being said I know I would love to have an antique synchroscope sat on my shelf..

Generally stuff was sold off in bulk lots, or even surplus post war property was sold with contents, and whoever bought it would use/sell what they could, and occasionally you get places like this where it was all just left in situ. I can think of or 3 places I know of that used to be like this. AS always with stuff like this, just because a few people might like to have it, that doesn't make it viable for someone to spend their time to find them, and then squeeze enough money out of them. Now ebay is around it's much easier!

Go to a big ex MOD vehicle sale at Ruddington in the early 60's and all the truck beds would be full of boxes of stuff like this, which was usually dumped because all the buyer wanted was the vehicle. Radio spares, radio valves, tools, certified aircraft rivets, bomb sight computers and sights ex Lancaster, periscopic viewers for tank drivers and crew and radio transceivers (the old R1155 series units) and these are only some of the items I picked up back then. I still have a a couple of boxes of the No 4 Armourer's Drift. All wrapped in greased paper and sealed in card boxes - used for knocking sight pins etc. out of the SMLE or No 4 rifle, but very useful now for sinking panel pin heads, prior to filling and a full set of Rolls Royce stamped maintenance tools for the Merlin Aero engine in their fitted wooden case - 30 odd unused chrome plated tools, in exchange for an old large white fiver back then, bargain! But as Krela says, these things were only any value as scrap back then, there were literally 100's of tons of kit - much unused, sitting in stores. Any town or city of note had its 'EX Gov' shop/store to sell off this stuff, London had one in Edgware Rd (Proops?) and we had John Burghley in Doncaster - Shop/Spotborough - large store yard. The last big disposal sale of note to me was a few years back, when a vast tonnage of iron horse shoes were disposed of - WW1 and 1920's stock one presumed.

That's a real interesting place full of interesting bits and pieces.you shot it well mate

Absolutely amazing find and fantastic pix mate. Loved that set.

Thanks Hughie, i must admit i did a couple of trips as wasn't totaly happys with all photos 1st time round.

Awsome find there, wonder why all that stuff has been just left to rot? Amazing

I have no idea, but i will try and find out;)

Must have just been excissive stock, its a real shame so much has been vandlised/smashed etc, but does make for some excelant shots.

Cheers Brewtal, was a real pain to light but i was pleased with the results, even if i did have to pop beck to do a few re-takes.

A most wonderful set, beautifully composed and full of fascinating trove...what is that stuff that looks a bit like gold bullion?

It is a wooden crate full of cardboard boxes - like the one shown in photograph 11. These are the standard brown cardboard boxes that small items - electrical valves, variable resistors, screws, tools etc were packed in for Government purchased contracts. In the late fifties and sixties one would find all sorts of buildings crammed with the things, mostly containing items that were no bloody good to anybody - you cannot do much with a box of 500 alloy rivets, unless you a building a Lanc or Spitfire and one never found the correct value variable resistance to get your crystal set (nearest we had to a transistor radio back then) working!
