Hi All
onwards and upwards, The next site we went to was the gun battery at South Forelands, located to the East of Dover and next to St Margrets bay.
The site is very large, there are 2 under ground plotting rooms, 4 under ground magazines only 2 of which we managed to get in to. There are 2 deep level air raid shelter on the site, the largest of the 2 was sealed up but the other is open.
The Gun pits have been filled in but you can still make out there location and shape. There is an under ground tunnel that links the last gun pit with the number 1 magazine.
This is going to be picture heavy.
First off number 2 & 3 magazine
Outside the main way in. The shell rails are still inplace.
Next is number1 plotting room, enterence is through the small hole and then down a ladder in to the main bunker.
This is the main plotting room in side the bunker, To the left and out of the camera shot is the emergency exit shaft, the picture on the right is look along the exit shaft.
Next is potting room number 2, this has the same entrance but the bunker has seen some fire damage.
The blast doors are still intact, just off from the main plotting room is the air filter room, as you can see the equipment is still inplace.
Right next to the surface entrance to the plotting room is the second of the deep level air raid shelters, this one has also seen fire and smoke damage, but access is still possible.
The shot right is of the way out, up the steps and back to the outside world. The picture on the right is the second exit which has now been back filled.
Well that's just about it for South Forelands battery only to add one more picture of this little guy sat on a gate post.
Well done if you made it this far, any and all comments are most welcome.
