Citadel Battery Dover June 09

Hi All

On with the tour, high above Dover is Citadel Battery built in the 1800's to defend Dover from the bad boys across the channel, there is another one next to this but it is now used my Dover coast guard.

The first thing of note when you enter the site is a WW2 spigot mortor mount. Then on to the battery propper. there are 3 massive gun pits and each one has it's own under ground magazines and mess room.

All have been back filled but access is still possible (Oh and look out for the cave spiders).



The shot on the left is of one of the massive gun pits, the shot on the right shows the steel rear roof that each gun pit would of had.



These next two shots show what might be iron work to help move the massive guns.



OK, now it's time to get down and dirty under the gun pits and go and have a look at the magazines.

He did it by not eating !!! HE NEVER BLOODY EATS !!! I dont even think the guy is human !! Three whole days we spent in Dover and all WE ATE was half a packet of bleedin' stale CHOKKI CHIP COOKIES !! This guy is made for urbexing !!
PS I couldnt go underground at Citadel or Hougham -Not because i'm particularly porky - But because of DEM FOOKIN SPIDERS !!!! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!
