Hougham Battery Dover June 09
Hi All
On with the grand tour of Dover and it's Military defences, the next port of call was Hougham Battery which sits just to the west of Dover.
We did this over 2 days. The site is as with most in Dover quite large, the guns
were sited some way back (the other side of the A20) With the observation posts on the cliff edge and a small light AA gun site next to them.
Then further back is the under ground plotting room. This one is larger than most.
OK picture time............
Most of the OP's have mounts for range finding equipment.
Looking down in to one of the cliff top ammo magazines and the graffiti on the wall.
Behind the OP's on the cliff top is the Generator room and next to it in the field is the emergency exit for the plotting room.
This hatch needs two people to open it and prop it up.
The next shots are from in side the bunker, there are 7 rooms in here, the main entrance has been back filled but this has only been done recently when the A20 was widened.
As you will see from the pictures there are in fact 2 plotting rooms with in the bunker, and the bunker has 2 different paint colours cream and light blue.
Back on the surface, as you leave the site you will see the under ground Nissen hut, this is also thought to be some form of generator building.
Well that's it, thanks for looking. If you want to see more pictures please go to.
