For history I wil refer you to Random's report:- http://www.derelictplaces.co.uk/main/showthread.php?t=5835&highlight=silloth

Like Random we went on a Sunday when the market and car boot sale was on, but I managed to wander round the whole site and wasn't disturbed, in fact it was nice to be away from the mayhem of the market on the airfield.

Nice one Jep I'm up that way in a couple of weeks time so I think I'll have to check this one out. I'm sure Mrs. Jonney wont mind especially if the car boot sale is on.

Nice one, I missed a lot of the bits you have covered there. The place is a bit of a mess, isn't it?

It is, but I enjoyed having a nose around anyway. A lot of the problem is is because the animals have free reign of it I think.

Silloth was always one of those caravan sites we went to when I was a kid, but I never did manage to get over the airfield. :(

well at least you had a caravan Gordon, My dad was stingey so we had to make do with a tent but I still enjoyed myself at Silloth. I think most of the kids I grew up with stayed in Silloth at one time or another

I was passing here yesterday and although I didn't have much time I did manage to get a few photo's. JEP I hope you don't mind me posting them here...

The rest of my photo's were of the same locations as JEP's so I haven't bothered posting them. There are some more buildings left to explore here but they are next to the Johnsons Controls factory (which I'm lead to believe is now closed down) but time wasn't on my side, maybee next time...

Cheers Jon

Cool photos Jon. Did you enjoy your look around? I kept on getting followed by the resident cattle, I'd turn round to find I was being watched all the time. ;)

Yer I enjoyed it, just wish I'd have had more time. Don't know where the cattle were though as the place was empty. I guess I struck lucky on that one. Had a quick look on google earth when I got back and it looks like I missed out on quite a bit of stuff but I'll just have to go back and have another mooch about
