LARCs - Hilsea

Hey everyone!

Thought I'd finish off 2014 with a nice little visit to the old LARCs at Hilsea. Guessing they've been there some time as they're badly rusted in places and covered in graffiti, but hey - makes it all the more interesting. Also found a couple of old buildings there too, although they were absolutely trashed. Roof had collapsed and stuff, so I didn't venture too deeply.

Access was pretty easy.. car park right opposite and there's about 5 holes in the fence along the perimeter! Anyhow, onto some pictures..













Also tried to experiment with HDR, didn't think they were too bad for a second go. Apologies for the watermark, haven't got round to purchasing a full license yet.





Definitely a nice view from the top!

It's a shame they haven't been given up for restoration. Nice shots.

of a matter of interest, which nuts do you undo if you have a puncture.
Surely not all of them. but they must have a purpose,

It is! They've been there for quite some time now, subject to graffiti and a lot of rust in places!

think they were part of the old pounds yard wich used to be there, they ere further onto the earth area in front of them but a team of royal engineers recently moved them as a training exercise.

Yeah they were. Hopefully something useful can be done with them.

problem is how do you move something like that, by road would be a nightmare due to their width and I doubt if they are watertight anymore.

Not to mention the weight either - they'd weigh tonnes!

Awesome landing craft! it would be a mammoth task to restore but well worth it hope it comes off, thanks for sharing.
