Hasard dominates the tiny town of Cheratte. It was constructed in 1907 and was one of the first electric powered mines in Belgium. With up to 600 workers during its heyday it employed a vast amount of the male community in the area. The mine contains multiple shafts, the deepest being 480metres deep. The pit closed in 1977. and has been left in stasis ever since.

Unfortunately our visit here was rushed, and we didn't manage to do the whole site. When we arrived all was quite, but then we noted a "tat tat tat" sound in the distance. Whilst peering out the window we noted people running around in full military outfits, shooting at each other. We proceeded to nose around. Then a yelp and a curse from Junior, I ran to see what was wrong to find 5 men dressed as if they were in "Desert Storm" looking at me, and Junior jumping around in pain. Junior; it turned out been short 3 times as he came around a corner, by a group of Airsoft players. After this we really couldn't move around the place without causing problems for us or the Airsoft players, so unfortunately we called it a day.
