Here’s part two of my mammoth Canfranc explore. In some ways this part of the site is more interesting from an exploring point of view than the station itself, while obviously not being so grand architecturally. It lies to the south of the fenced-off main station area and it is literally just a case of walking on through and following the rails. The buildings vary is usage and also in terms of their state of repair/decay. Anyhow on with the pictures.

Continuing on from the station…

We come to a series of large buildings in a relatively good state:

An open-door policy prevails:

Inside there are a few interesting bits and bobs including this broken sign from the modern day station:

Loads of old radiators just rusting away:

These goods platforms, like the main station, have lost their awning coverings:

Some sort of boiler:

Interesting looking building used for the storage of some sort of liquid?

Not too sure what this sign indicates:

This place is a little more worse-for-wear:

And full of rubbish:

..and a load of old oil drums:

While this place has lost its roof:

And let’s not forget this sad and lonely carriage:

More rusting carriages to come in the final of the three reports.

Another great one.looking forward to part three now.to see all them old rusty carriages

Nice work there Hugie. I've only ever read about this place in a book and it has a few pics, so it's great to see it in more detail. Really enjoyed that mate, it really is quite a special place. Thanks for sharing.

Your yellow sign is a shunt demarcation/limit sign I think and I wonder if the storage silos are a more modern addition. They certainly were not for liquid storage and have a typical grain silo door on the side - if original to the rail system perhaps they contained adhesion sand for the locos? Your nice piece of wooden random furniture contains a metal tank for lamp oil, they were normally situated on the platforms at suitable locations - hence the lettering etc in white paint.

I normally like the dereliction of a site in preference to the working, when I have been able to view both with the passage of time. However, this is one of the few sites where I much prefer the 'living' - perhaps my 30 odd years with BR colours my preferences.

As I have said on the original report, very nicely done, especially the images that capture the buildings in the landscape. Since first seeing this place from afar in the early morning sunlight, it is an image that I have always remembered for some reason. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Excellent photographs. The yellow sign is a switch/points indicator, to indicate which direction the switch/points are heading, there should be a permanent little green light showing constantly, but alas I don't think it would be working.
