Really enjoyed exploring some of the many derelict churches on my recent holiday in Norfolk. I’ve left the two best to last in terms of my reports. My penultimate church report is the very satisfying ruin of St Peter’s of Wiggenhall. It’s a largish church and it’s in reasonable nick bar the roof being completely missing. It’s a recent abandonment as it was largely intact in the 1920s as the postcard below indicates.

Constructed of brick, carstone, flint and ashlar close by to the River Ouse, there are no longer any aisles or clerestory, although the tower is pretty much complete despite being struck by lightning in 2013. There's still quite a lot to see including the low seats beneath the Perpendicular windows, sedilia, piscine and two aumbries. There are also a number of corbels and headstops carved into faces and animals. All this is thought to date to the 15th century.
