This is just a thread about the restoration of the Plympton post, that i have undertaken.

It was a real mess when we first came across it, knee deep in stagnant water and full of huge rocks. There was also signs of fire damage and the hatch was completely f****d.

Since then i have completely re-done the hatch however left the counterweight off for the moment as the hatch doesnt have the adequate locking mechanism to hold it down.

Have drained all of the water with the exception of a couple of cm in the sump, we have also removed most of the debris however a small amount is still left in the toilet. also have re-furbished the toilet and am now working on the door.

This week i will be plastering the cracks in the wall and painting the whole thing as well as removing the rest of the debris.

good luck with it

the problem is with a 1968 closure is that if you want it to be authentic you need the pre 1968 equipment, which is a lot harder to find than post 68 equipment

im planning on restoring it to its original state however maybe to its more common ones due to the fact that we dont have any of the stuff we need and the stuff you can buy is, as you said post 1968

Hope all goes well, I don't think anyone has taken on one thats quite that bad before. Be good to see this one done though, there are not many 68 closures that have been restored.

the main problem we have now is that the far air vent has been filled with concrete and we need a new pump for the sump pit.

if anybody knows how the place would have been wired please could you let me know

Main equipment such as the BPI, GZI, FSM Dome, Siren is all the same. The only things that are pre 68 is the old style teletalk and the old style carrier reciever and old style fixed survey meter. They can be picked up if you know where to look. They come on ebay a few times a year.

And yes, i have the wiring diagram for the posts, i will dig it out, scan it and send it to you.

Unfortunatley it seems that my post was broken into last night. No damage to the post and no other sign of someone being there other than the chain being cut.

Looks like you have taken on a large project, I admire your enthusiasm and wish you every success and look forward to your updates, Thanks.

What a project! There's certainly a lot of people on here that can help (especially Krypton!)
Keep us posted!

i need help, urgently. it was broke into again last night and i now need to think of a way to lock it so someone cant use a hacksaw or bolt cutters on it.

Put the tbar mechanism on it with a hasp and staple over the hole. Then put one padlock on each side and make some hasp protectors to fit on.

Look, really this isn't a ROC post restoration forum. PLEASE use PMs for this kind of stuff, or find a more appropriate website.

If I have to ask again I'll be very annoyed.

About a 3 really. ;)

But I will get the angry face out anyway...
