A bit of an early start and another from the 'itch' list, that is, somewhere I've passed numerous times but not had a spare minute to drop into.
As it's literally right at the side of a reasonably busy road it needed a bit of thinking about access-wise.
I wasn't expecting amazing things and suffice to say I wasn't disappointed but a few snaps and curiosity satisfied was reward enough.

It's one of the few remaining original 18c tollhouses which served the Peebles/Biggar road. It's in surprisingly reasonable condition inside but a bit of a mess. Theres the usual bags of rubbish and rubble etc, possibly from when whomever was doing the windows.
I suspect it's also been used as a shelter for someone at some stage but I think been empty of actual folks living there for quite a few decades now.

There is damage to the roof which has started to rot through small sections of the internal ceilings.
Front windows have been bricked up and rear ones are broken and missing in places. Quite alot of swift/martin nests inside as well.

Cheers for looking.

Another nice little find. Good to see different places and especially from an area that is rarely documented.

A friend, who was a long distance lorry driver of the old school, has just told me that the 'bath room' signage is the work of some 'Gentleman of the road' from years back. Evidently a well known place, along with others up and down the country, that offered useable ablution facilities to users of the Highway.
