Founded in 1869 it was originally the residence of the Sisters Of Notre Dame.

It began life as a pupil teacher centre and became a college in 1908.

The sisters eventually left the building in 1978 due to an expansion which made the site an all girls school in 1983.

In September 2013 the college moved to a new site and the building was left abandoned. Demolition of the site is now in progress so I was lucky to see this when I did.

Most, but not all of the metal organ pipes stripped out. Shame - for pilots, few things as as sad as an aircraft that will never fly again, and for organists, the same is true of old pipe organs. I'm both pilot and organist. Thanks for taking these - beautifully framed shots.

Yes, it's very sad (I'm an organist but not a pilot). I suspect that the pipes were taken on the presumption that they would be worth a bit as scrap. THe problem is that most pipes are a tin/lead alloy that costs more to separate than the price of the equivalent weight in tin and lead. Would be worth something to an organ builder, who would assay the metal and then melt it down for new pipes - but no organ builder would buy a truckload of old organ pipes without being satisfied of the provenance.
