A little mini explore that I wasn't expecting whilst out doing touristy stuff on holiday. There were plenty of people about, reading the bumf on the door and wandering around it, but, if you don't check the seemingly bolted door, you'll never know if it opens............

History

There has been a lifeboat house on The Lizard since 1859, in fact there have been three at this point at Polpeor Cove. This one was built in 1914 and operated until 1961 when, due to the cost of maintaining the building and slipway, it closed and was moved half a mile around the coast to Kilcobben. In total 562 souls were saved by the brave men of the RNLI. This includes the RNLI's largest ever rescue, on March 17-18 1907, when the SS Suevic sank, 167 were rescued.
