Kings Cliffe Airfield

Starting with the fighter pens we managed to get to.It seemed like only the outer ones had loopholed walls and others just had the stanton sections and only one of the loopholed sections on each was linked to the shelter section with the other only having a front entrance which seemed a bit suicidal.The best of the bunch was e10647

Nice one, Rich. What's with the wooden structure with the ladder, on top of the shelter? Perhaps the entombed cantilever pillbox will outlast the rest, being sealed from the frost and chavs and having a little protection from the damp

the half a door ?

would there have been a tunnel between the BHQ and the pill boxes (The round ones)? or would the pill boxes be joined?

No tunnels, but they would often be joined /supported by seagull (zig zag shaped) trenches and surrounded with barbed wire etc.

Nice pics, used to play in here when I was younger (a lot younger), have been thinking of a revisit with my lad as they seem quite a "safe" explore so should be back there soon.

Apparently across the road from the main pics you took there is another pillbox and some hangers etc in the farm towards the A47

Maybe needing a return trip

Planning app 14/02225/FUL on East Northants website that closes soon will destroy these WW2 reminders as a caravan park is planned on Jacks Green that formed part of the airfield bringing hundreds of holidaymakers to roam the area.
