On a boiling hot Sunday afternoon, me and one of the Shuckpups went down to Hopton near Lowestoft to go on another Pillbox Hunt. Heres what we found... Heres a pillbox pretending to be an Iron Age Long Barrow!

Not sure whether it was built to help protect the Radar Station as there was nothing else to defend...

Not quite sure what this is on top of the Pillbox but boy did I have a job trying to hang on to the side of the box trying to get a decent shot while the Shuckpup laughed... Machine Gun Mount Foxy?...

Some great images there Black, these things are dotted all over the east coast aren't they, but some in better condition than others! Looks like you found some little stars there!

Cheers Darkness, theres loads more all over the show, but my ultimate Pillbox explore would have to be a Lincs Three Bay!:)

that 1st one looks interesting, was there an entrance to it? seems to be a great area for us pillbox anoraks! must get over there some time:)

Am I now branded a Pillbox Anorak then Kaputnik! Ha! Apparently this was built to be disguised as a mound if earth as if you had not guessed already and was slap bang in the middle of a Golf Course!!

Better than being an Eddie Stobart lorry spotter, or beermat collector!
the entrance was maybe earthed up then, for fear of losing those expensive monogram'd golf balls!

Your telling me mate I would rather be into pillboxes anyday! You may be right about the reason for the Golf Balls it never dawned on me to ask the Greenkeeper who kindly showed us around!

You'll have to let me know when you're next in Gy, there's plenty of the 3 bay pillboxes in the area that I wouldn't mind revisiting.

That's a 20th century chambered cairn, Blacks!
Great pics.
There was originally an HAA battery under what's now Aberdour Golf Course in Fife, and I strongly suspect that at least some of the tees might be on the roofs of ready ammo lockers/magazines.

Errol are you getting all Most Haunted on me mate?

Like you say BS there are worse things to be into...lol. You keep teasing me with these fine examples. Gordon there is at least one HAA battery round here that I know of that now lies beneath a golf course and I never thought about the tees being the roofs... mmmmmmm. Apparently the search light base is approx 4 foot under neath the 13th green

Nice pics Shuck. I take it you'll also be posting some pics up of the old radar site too? In your third pic that looks like a miltary fence in the background. Is that the perimeter of the old radar site?

Yes it is the perimeter fence of the Radar Station mate. One problem though the Radar is under private Ownership, I could make enquiris though.:)
