Hi all
well back out and about, I saw pictures of this little gem on FB, and as it`s not a million miles from where I live it would be rude not to visit.
From what I can see on DoB data base it`s a civil decoy bunker (series C) what ever that means. I`m guessing it would of been for Swindon, as thats the largest major town in the area.

First off the outside of the main bunker.

Then looking in to the entrance way with door still in place.

There are two rooms left and right of the entrance passage, these have been fitted with water tanks by the local farmer, so not WW2.

I`m guessing and its only a guess that this is an emergency exit.

Well that`s it thanks for looking, all comments are more than welcome.

Odd looking thing I will say but decoy for what

Presumably this was the bunker that protected the personnel that rigged the actual decoy site - set false fires etc to lead the bomber force away from Swindon in the event of an actual raid? Otherwise I am as bemused as 'night crawler' as to its use!

One side contained a coventry climax generator set, the other a crew room. Fields of Deception by Colin Dobinson is a fantastic and comprehensive book if you're interested in learning more about the decoy setup during WW2, like so many stories of that era it's quite remarkable.

This is actually a starfish site designed to take bombs away from civilian areas (Swindon in this case) and would have had both fire boxes and set ups with incandescent bulbs (hence the generator requirement) to simulate residential streets.

Nice one mate !! This one has been on the radar for a while, must get over soon !! Ps get ready for some inland bombing range visits pretty soon !!
