Location
gt yarmouth
This location was a nightmare to find as it is in a tiny Hamlet just outside Yarmouth, on a slight rise above the River Bure. Was built to defend Yarmouth from Seaborne Air Raids, although I am not sure what type of guns would have been stationed here. Only a few shots as the Command Centre is used by a local gun club and securely Padlocked...

As I said an absolute pig to find as it was around 300 yards down a farm track and smack bang in the middle of a large clump of trees and there were the usual 5 foot high nettles right round the site. Ouch!..:)

Yeah -what's the deal with WW2 defenses vs. nettles, brambles and other "kill ya legs" plants!!! :confused:
WW2 anti-tank blocks mixed with Viaducts usually are the worst places for me! :lol:

With all that said, an interesting looking structure -any ideas what the raised circular area just outside the door is for?

Pillboxes never seem to be that bad L.B. Its always somewhere in the middle of nowhere.:lol:

Nice one, Shucky. Glad you found it after all. Looks to be in quite good condition, too. :)

There was not much to see, but what there was, was owned by a local gun club. Any idea what sort of guns Foxy.? 3.7 Bofors maybe?

Bear in mind that a 3.7" HAA gun and a 40mm Bofors LAA gun were two different things.
The holdfast mechanism for a 3.7" is roughly 3m in diameter; can't remember what size the 4.5" holdfast was, but the latter guns had a shield to protect the crew from muzzle blast, so I'm assuming that the emplacement itself was wider.

Nice find BS, looks a hard place to photograph with all the nature taking hold. I'd say the guns would more than likely have been 3.7". Here's a link for you if you haven't seen already;

It was not easy to get to at all mate. The nettles were very high and it was a case of a load of Calamine when I got home. I had to walk about half a mile down a farm track, and then the farmer duly appeare in his big ol John Deere asking what I was doing. I explained about the Gun Emplacement and with that he gave me full permission. Result.
