Thank you all.the engine room being stripped was a bit of a let down but I guess it's better than it being scrapped altogether, and the needs of the use of tge boat had to be seen first.and it did see service not decommissioned the year it was commissioned.experienced boat workers are now working on it

Sorry that is a load of old bollocks! P155 was launched in 1978 and decommissioned in 1995. It was then placed in 'care and maintenance' before being disposed of to 'commercial' interests, thus it never was left to become derelict on some sand bank or tied up in some old dock - like others in her class did. She is now obviously well cared for in her present role, but other similar British war time MGB's used in similar ways have long since decayed and been scrapped.

Mr Tubbys Home I wish I had paid more attention to the two explorers who shared this place with me, as inside it was bloody dark, hidden almost from view and overgrown foliage an annoyance to avoid, this old cottage sits, still possibly unknown by passersby or anyone wanting to walk the trek. I think dauntless described it best when he uploaded his photos, clarifying that it was abandoned in 2007. but as I stated inside its dark and murky, not the worst conditions, but opening...

Haha, did Billy tell you the story about the big pump? He was planning to pump out the cable tunnels under the Lurgi plant to see if he could find cables, not sure whether he ever succeeded but he had to acquire an oil filter firstů I got two-thirds up the chimney at the start of the year, but the holes at each level where the ladder passes through were a tight squeeze and and freezing rain was blasting in through the "windows". Nae fun. Yep, the other metal recyclers were sound when we...

This would make a nice cafeteria. It was built in 1979 and then decommissioned the same year so that's why its still in good condition.

Not sure if they are gone yet, they will need a specialist decontamination team in due to the nature of the chemicals, and the asbestos. I’m sure this place is a mess by now, they got all they could from the main part and they only have the labs left for scrap now.

Aye Billy was telling me stories of how things used to be there. He is a legend, I loved meeting him. He showed me the video of him at the top of the chimney, he climbed up with a hand soap bottle full of red paint in one sock, paint brush in the other, all so he could paint his name in big letters at the top. I’m pretty sure prettyvacant71 couldn’t understand a word we were saying at the time! He also told me he rescued the photographs and gave them to local businesses because he couldn’t bare...

Sadly; turning the machinery space into a tarted up 'board room' rather spoils it for me. Having been down below on an operational vessel of the same class, the noise and view were quite spectacular.

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
