Finally done it! - I popped my asylum cherry at last:)

I have looked in here on several occasions when passing while working but never really got the bottle to get out of the car and go in. Today was different. I drove up, waited a few minutes and thought what the heck! grabbed my camera and went for it.
This place has changed significantly inthe times I've parked up for lunch or a recce so thought its now or never. Went in on my own for an hour or so - was a bit nervous to start with but soon settled. I didn't snoop around much upstairs as access was difficult and in places it was obvious the damp was having bad effects on the stability of some of the floors - didn't much fancy falling that far with no backup around so please be warned if you go in there the floors do not look that good upstairs.
I wont go into the history of the place cos I'm sure you all know more than I do about it so on with the piccys

Amazing photos Jules, really great. When I grow up, I want to take photos like yours..! Thanks for sharing :)

Great photos.

The fifth one down was the old canteen, it looks as though this has recently been ripped out.

It also looks like some of the stuff from that ward has been ripped out for some reason - and you can really see how much the place has suffered with recent rain from that ceiling, just check out how it looked a few months ago, very upsetting.

and number 7 - it's obvious how mindless the demolition is, not planned at all, I mean look at the roof, could easily give way...

Nice photos, I didn't think it was that treacherous here but I didn't see that collapsed staircase!
Have they been taking tiles and lead off the roof since last year? On picture 7 it looks like the roof's been stripped.
It's a sad shame that it's being treated so poorly.:(

Hi Lost.
Yes a lot of the roof tiling and lead work has now been removed along with the demolition work. This has caused a lot of water to leak into the buildings and the floors are now bulging in places where the wood has swolen due to damp hence why I didnt go much further. The demolition seems so random as well - it looks like they threw a dart at a map of the site and knocked that part down. Makes me wonder if they actually have permision to knock it down or are just making it so unsafe that it has to come down for safety reasons.
Also, all demolition work seems to have stopped according to one person I spoke to.
