Hi,

I've seen a lot of posts over time on here, and most seem to come from the same old tourist hotspots at WP. So due to it's current swiss cheese status, here's some from buildings on the site less visited.

Apologies, still getting to grips with HDR!

Blake or Darwin block (next to Admin) - This room is twinned with the Room of Hoovers!

These were dated October 2006, so after the block had been closed a few years. They say 'Fire Extinguisher', 'Torch' and 'Map'

Shameless self promotion. I've seen pics of this prestine, shame someone had to vandalise it.

Great shots you took there.
The piano looks a fancy one, reminds me of a time long ago on the piano at cane hill:lol:
When did west park close then?

Certainly different shots there,I understand the hospital started its run-down from the mid 90`s through to 2002.When I went first in early 2007 there was some live units still running.

West Park is still open, at least half of it is. The abandoned area closed in December 2003. One of the blocks has lots of xmas trees in it and a newspaper dated then.

This makes it so much more interesting when you see things you havnt seen before. That piano is nice, whats wrong with it though?

I like your report but a slight correction, well over half the site is closed (started in mid to late 90's)- and many of us were exploring it in 2003 and 2004 - I know the ward you are talking about with Christmas trees in it and 2003 newspapers. I remember exploring wards opposite abd seeing lights on and people at the windows!

Well, if sir wishes to be pedantic about it, it's probably 35-40%live, the rest out of use. Kind of depends if the Kipling, Jenner & Mansfield buildings are not in use. Do you know or anyone reading? I've been in every building and most of the tunnels apart from the Chapel.

Must have been nice to see it in the days after it closed, it's becoming full of teenage taggers who think it's clever to put anti Islamic/white power graffiti about. Thank god for the clone tool and healing brush. The wards either side of admin have been stripped by metal thieves, insulation casing everywhere.

It's a shame they don't secure the place more and charge a fiver or something for budding photographers to go explore, hard hat and hi-vis compulsory.

Kipling, Jenner and Masefield are not in use and have not been for some years. The only original ward blocks still in patient use are Burnham, Farmside and Woodside right at the back of the site, and Scott house (male infirmary), all others, mostly long stay wards, closed as stated between the mid 90's and approx 2004. Not sure if the old admissions block (ramsey/rosebery) is still in administrative use now as i've not been round that way of late, any ideas?

I know Kipling, Jenner and Masefield aren't in use, as i was sniffing around there this evening. Kipling eluded me though. Roseberry looks very much like it's live, but it's a fair way from the live area of the hospital.

A lot of the wards look like they have been closed for donkeys years, mid-90's as said. Some of them are in better condition though, with better floors and not so much damp. Presumably these are the ones that closed later. Tbh most of the site looks closed before 2004 seeing as the fire in the main hall was on September 30th 2003 and photos of the hall before that show it already in bad condition. I also found this link - http://www.hilditchauctions.co.uk/Hospital List.pdf which states it closed in Jan 1997 so I guess the bit everyone sees closed then.

You can tell by the decay how long each was closed. From JaneFord to Admin must have been a fair while back. The ones past Admin towards the site entrance are mostly prestine. The 3 by themselves (covered in a recent post i put up, bar Kipling) are similar to the ones closed the longest. The floor is gone in Masefield in parts, like Dartford Denton.

This ariel shot shows the place with the Hall in tact.
