My first report on this forum (might be a bit pic-heavy), sort of a combination of photos from 3 visits made during the last month. On the first two visits surprisingly we didn't meet anybody else, apart from those pigeons in the laundry who make a hell of a lot of noise
...the second trip we took we had to leg it from these old people wandering around the live part whilst we were outside in full view! And adding to the wildlife spotted there, people have reported seeing an Adder in the grass recently and on the second trip there was a Deer bounding around in the undergrowth outside the laundry
All these are shot with a Fujifilm Finepix A400 digital camera, if I had the money I'd buy a dSLR like a shot but so far this camera has proved surprisingly good. I think 99% of us know the history surrounding the site but heres a little snippet shamelessly copied & pasted from another site:
West Park was the last mental hospital to be developed on the Horton Estate, having been planned since 1906, prior to the opening of neighbouring Long Grove asylum. Initial development to have been completed for opening in 1916. From 1917 the main hospital was largely complete and utilised by Canadian Military, and subsequently handed back to London county council. The complete hospital was anticipated to hold approximately 2,000 patients of mixed class. The hospital started a phase closure in 2003 and by 2005 was almost completely disused except for some male wards and other little areas on the site.
