Here's a little bit about it. Whittingham asylum grew to be the largest of its kind in the country and pioneered the use of electroencephalograms. (EEG) is the recording of electrical activity along the scalp produced by the firing of neurons within the brain). It was built using the clay dug from a pit on the site, now known as the duckpond and was officially opened on 1st April 1873. Due to the development of new drugs and therapies, like most of the asylums, this one closed in 1995.
Originally Whittingham asylum was made up four divisions, these being:
St Luke's, St John's, St Margaret's and Cameron house.
Whittingham asylum was self sufficient having a brewery, farms, post office and butchers to name but a few, it also had a railway station - this i have yet to explore, a chap that i bumped into who used to work there said that apparently the steam train that used to run down this line is buried in the grounds, so if anyone has a metal detector we might get on Time Team :)!!

Well, where do i start?!?
Set off at the crack of dawn to get there early as it seems every time i go on an explore, i get out of the car and there is always some one by chance who wants to stop me have a chat about the weather when all i want to do is get in the place! One bloke on a bike in Sheffield even invited me in for a chicken sandwich which i declined
Anyway, what a great explore this place is, was there 8 hours and could quite easily go back again and again. The floors are completely rotten in most places and the roof isn't much better but did manage to see quite a lot although i didn't venture in the upstairs rooms much due to this!
Tried to get into Cameron House (the roofless one) and the nurses block but couldn't, it didn't help that the security were circling around for ages!!
Sorry if the photos aren't great only just getting into photography!!!

Good stuff, this is one place that I have been meaning to get to.

And there is nothing wrong with your pictures, they are fine.

i did get a couple but my camera only had a 2 second shutter speed and the hall was in complete darkness so they were rubbish!! I've only just got into the photography side really so I've just bought a new camera with a longer shutter speed :)
