As of Autumn last year, Hellingly hospital has been in the hands of a developer and they wasted no time in starting work.

First port of call was putting up some new houses between park house and the main building, and at more or less the same time they ripped into Park house which is now totally flat.

These 3 images were taken in December 2009

I returned again very recently, just to see state of the main building (and perhaps scope out access ;)) and shot some externals. Looks like the developers are starting to clear the buildings out, a lot of the upstairs windows are missing their frames entirely and theres a huge pile of carpets, radiator covers, light fittings, fake ceilings and plasterboard on the ground outside. But can anyone tell me if its in order to convert the wards or flatten them?

It's good to see what's going on there now. I think it's a shame when these places get torn down/redeveloped, especially in the cases of Hellingly and Cane Hill where they were so far gone there wasn't much developers could save. What's the problem with leaving them as a modern ruin slowly festering away?

Oh, and tick the 'outstanding planning applications' box so you will see any current applications yet to be assessed by the council.

Many thanks for the update..hard to say whether the clearout will lead to demo or re-use cos Leybourne cleared all the windows etc out of the nurses block and thats supposed to be knocked down..you are doing a great job keeping us up to date with progress.

Thanks for the update bones...gutted I only got there twice perhaps if a window of opportunity opens I could visit again who knows
