A sad place.........
Visited with Dangerous Dave, Total404 & his mate Jake
We visited here before going onto Penallta Colliery, thinking that we were in for a nice quiet time.
How wrong we were, there were people everywhere, (and not just voices inside my head!!), with some builders starting to erect security fencing around the perimeter, other people randomly wandering around the buildings which still have tiles on the roof, (not explorers!), and as we got to the chapel, a copper, who was waiting for us!
Didn’t manage to get to do the chapel or Admin, as we were asked to leave, but the main hospital threw up some great images.

The top floors are decaying at a much faster rate than the ground floor, due to the lack of roof tiles, but, I think that they make for some fascinating photo’s:

I've tried to find a few 'new' shots that may not have been seen before, (apart from everyones favourite piano!!)

This is a great site, with so much atmosphere and character.

Thanks for looking.....

Sounds like a developer has been found.Hopefully they will tarp the roofs to halt the water ingress too.Funnily, the piano was only thing we didnt get to see!

Nope it's still not sold. The administrators want £4 million for the site. That includes the isolation hospital at the top.. the persons living it in were given it by the previous owners to wipe off a bad debt but no proving documents can be obtained and as a result that's up for sale as part of the lot. Only thing not included is Chancerfield house.

They are trying to secure it as obviously at present they are liable for any injuries occurred on site. Sadly the place is too far gone to save now.. even Admin & Chapel are starting to fall away into disrepair.

Thats a shame, they were mint only a few weeks back. I was under the impression that both had been secured.

We were told by a lady out walking that the owners are father and daughter who have since fallen out because father sold off the roof slates..they are no longer on speaking terms.Apparantly, father holds regular board meetings in admin, however he is the only one present!!Then again, quite how true this is remains to be substanciated.

There is some truth in this. If you look up on Companies house you can find the torrid history of directors and about 30-40 dubious companies set up over the past ten years. It leads you nowhere really.

John Wier was the last director of 'Chancerfield Estates' which owned the buildings. He was still living in the building up till early January this year when he was kicked out by the administrators who then went in and changed the locks.

The local councillor lives over in the old farm buildings and has kept a little eye on the building. While he was unable to save most of the slate going he got building regs up before they could strip all of the main hall and chapel. That's why they only inched one side of it. In all they made little over £30k on 3 million slate tiles worth £1 each.
