This was a hospital until the early 90s, accommodating people with learning difficulties. The place was very institutional and was one of the many Victorian hospitals that were built in the country for people who were classed as not 'normal'. I was a nurse there in the early 80s and although i have fond memories of the place, i support the modern view that people with learning disabilities should be intergrated into mainstream society. There's a church yard to the left of the ex-hospital complex that reputedly holds the remains of John Down, the doctor whose name is used to describe a medical condition-Down's Syndrome. ... the last time i went here was about 3/4 years ago and now all the floors in the nurseing home are gone most window frames and doors . well heres my photos .....
