Took a treck over to the valleys for an awesome day out and just a hint of exploring. ;)

We headed to Talgarth after a smooth journey and, after a really amusing exchange with a local and expressing intense interest in the local 'nature trail', she randomly began volunteering loads of info about our actual target. In the spirit of all things good, we dubbed her Evellyn, took her advice and set about exploring this awesome place.

There's quite a bit of history on the place here:

We didn't manages to get round near the boiler room as we heard some 'slate thieves' operating above. Essentially, some dude was on the roof levering tiles off with a crowbar and lobbing them down to his less than impressed girlfriend. Amusing on certain levels but bloody enraging overall.

A brilliant explore and day out with Flame (energy drinks and subway fest).

HDR and normal shots here. I know some people slate HDR, but it's still art as far as I'm concerned, so leave me alone you bullies. :)

The place has some great corridors. I fell in love with this one:

Tiny rooms were dotted everywhere around the hospital:

Painting left on a corridor floor:

Another tiny room, just off what seemed to be a communal bedroom:

More small room shenanigans. The light in here was awesome:

One of the few peaceful images we found in the place:

Peely paint, staircase mania:

Ballroom, kind of felt like a fun size Hellingly:

A great explore and highly recommended. There are things going on at the site so if you do fancy it, I'd recommend checking it out ASAP. Happy to respond to PMs for any further info :)

Cheers for your interest as always!

Very nice.. I promised myself I would not visit again (maybe 7 times this year already).. but sooner or later it's going to be the 'farewell' trip.

Gotta love that fencing around admin and the front door being wide open. Really that just sums up the whole Mid Wales saga to a tee.

Nice shot of the old padded cell :)

Presumably you didn't think to put in a call to crimestoppers about said vandals/thieves? =/

Hi Krela,

As we were leaving, we saw someone on site who was involved with the business park area and we passed the information onto him. He seemed to know a lot about the buildings and the history and his reaction more than suggested he was the kind of person who would take action!

There are only 7 officers in Brecon.. and to be honest it's been wide spread help yourself to anything since January. I've seen people loading up in the courtyard not even giving a toss who sees them.

The whole clock mech was stolen last month, a professional job at that as there are no markings on the ladders/frame down..

The local councillor lives in what was the original farm buildings.. he's tried his best to save the site including getting building regs out when the original 'liver brothers' as they are known in Talgarth were stripping the hall roof. They sold most of the slate for a pitiful £30'000.. it was probably worth twenty times that.

The real damage done at Talgarth was the way it was sold 10 years ago. The people that were involved in that very grey sell off should hold their head in shame. The whole of Talgarth is dying because of the hospital closure and the one thing that could have kept the community going was putting that site to a good re-use. Now it's only good for being flattened and returned to farm land (except admin/chapel)

Those were the days.. :(

Its soicking how bad admin looks now compared to only a couple of months ago before that Heras went up and boards over the windows.
