Berkshire County Asylum, aka Fairmile Aug 2010

Petzl & I had tried here earlier in the year but it was pissing down and we gave up after nearly breaking our necks sliding off all manner of wet architecture trying to get in.. On rolled the summer and we were back.. Big thanks to the Gentleman explorer for the lowdown & latest buzzz.

A couple of close shaves to be had inside.. firstly we had to duck into a walk in freezer to hide from some building contractors doing a reckie of the kitchens, 5 mins of giggling later they moved off, only to be nearly caught coming out of the freezer by security on the outside! But alas high viz does its job and we saw him before he could clock us and dive for cover again. After two close encounters we dicided to head off to the top floor of the main building and chill for a spot and keep lookout.

We spent around five & half hours mooching nosing and reading.. not even seeing half of the place. Another great days exploring and well worth the effort to get in.

I see you scande some photos from the comemortive book that was done when the place closed. I hav eon eof them. Would you like me to put some names to the football team as I went to school with them. The guy in the bottom right is now bald. Some good shots there.

Great stuff mate, I've been in there more times than I can remember and theres still some shots I don't recognise. I love that room with the bed in not many people find it, the fact there's a mirror in there so you can see if the patient is hiding behind the door makes you wonder what sort of person they kept in there.

Brilliant photos, it's a real shame the godawful false ceilings are so prevalent in it though

It's my local and I've only ever been twice! Really should spend a lot more time there before the conversion starts. Just wish more of the rooms weren't covered in the false ceilings, destroys the aspects of the rooms

I love the pics and hope to have a visit there myself when I'm back in the UK. Well done.
