Fairmile Hospital opened in 1870 as Moulsford Asylum, the name change to Fairmile Hospital occured when the hospital was incorporated into the National Health Service. It closed in 2003 and has sat empty ever since.

With the work to convert it to apartments about to begin, I thought that it was about time i got myself down here for a look around.

I was inside for about 4 hours and only managed to see a small part of it, I had a couple of close encounters with security, one of them was inside the main building, how they missed me I will never know as they were only about 6 feet away!

A top place and still in good condition, proof that good security pays pays off. I will be visiting again as I have a lot more of the place to see yet.

I didn't get too many externals as it was raining for most of the morning and security were very active doing the rounds.

Here are some picture of some of the bits I did see.

Nice pics, wouldn't mind going here myself, but with my luck i'll be caught by security before I even get in the place if they are very active lol!!

Amazing to see it in such good condition, makes a nice change :)
Love the photos, great composition :)

Great pictures mate. Nice to see the place is still do-able :) I haven't been there myself but my uncle went there when he went mental so I really want to check it out before it goes. Hopefully will get down there before its too late :)

Definately glad that its open for exploration still I will have to bring Liam down there soon as promised!

Looks surprisingly clean here!
I keep meaning to haul my ass up to this place, I know I'm only gonna regret it if I dont, it's only 15 mins away!
Give us a shout if you want some company on your return visit!

From what I was told security should not be in the building so it was probably contractors as they have to wear hi-vis there is also a firm working there who are clearing out the asbestos. Work is due to start very soon as all the planning has gone through and they are keen to get on.

I went to Fairmile early 2007 and remember an old wooden classroom type building outside the fence to the left of the site near the farm ..dunno if its still there, but what was it used for?One for Nightcrawler maybe

awesome pics!!

i was there a few days ago, there were contractors and security was also on site.

at that tme i didnt know the way in but im pretty sure ive got a better idea of what i need to do.. due to reasonable deduction.
the only problem is that ive got a wrist and hand injury at the min so not sure wether to try it as im reasonably sure it involves a small amount of climing =/

Are you talking about the one on the right of this photo.
