Visited CN and got some pics of the (sad to see) uber demolition work that's been underway for a while now.

Do I need to say any more? I'm an explorer before a photographer so all of these gorgeous images were taken on my little pocket snapper, I make no apologies for bad lighting etc

I do like the colour of the ferns in this shot:

Found this odd stuff on the floor of a room, seemed at first like it was a fungus or mould of some description (and it might be), but they were rock solid and seemingly full of pink something... ew.

The floor was a little dodgy here and there, but observing full health and safety guidelines we decided to go on and that healthy and safety could "f**k off".

Tunnels - still not sure about these if they mirror the setup of St Mary's or not - seem like they might but I was not in the mood to wander down them:

Fart Bomb!

(no sadly it was empty)

Destruction by the pool:

(nearly walked into the security guard here, saw him doing his rounds twice before we got bored and left)

And possibly my fav discovery of the whole day - not only was this old festering soft cheese still here, it was covered in what appeared to be lice or pupae of some description! See all those little spots? LARVA! Yummy!!!

Took loads more pics but like I said they're mostly of my boots, or more empty rooms, or my trollface. ;)

Thanks for posting. Don't see many reports on Cherry Knowle. Seems to be going the same way as all the other well known asylums and being hit by the bulldozers.

Those round brown things will be rabbit shit mate

Looks like it could old fiberglass roof and wall insulation td4. What a waste of a good old building all in the name of so called progress. My late uncle used to be a nurse practitioner there many moons ago and it's been god knows how long since I last had a wander round. Thanks for posting

Hi All,

Thanks for the comments! - I have more pics if anyone is interested - I just assumed that the market would have been flooded with them but if you want just give the word and I'll post a few more.

Nelly - lol I thought it was rabbit crap as well at first but these things were much larger irl and I thought they felt a bit like tar (yes we touched them, how can you not fondle a set of mysterious balls...) my money is on some sort of fungus.

We didn't see any heavy machinery on site (per-se) but there was a large generator truck out front and a load of three phase cable running about the place (focused on the area around the kitchens / pool / where the main entrance used to be) and there are pallets of roof tiles stacked around the place.

At the moment clearly the asbestos removal chaps are in as there are 'sealed' rooms with plastic tarp stuck over the doorways etc, I suppose they are removing what they can before smashing more up and creating a cloud of asbestos dust.

I am very sorry to see this place being brought down although I have to say due to vandalism (more than just general decay) the place is totally trashed, clearly the youth of the area have had a field day over the years smashing every window, toilet bowl, hand basin and anything else that could be pried off the wall.

good report. thanks for posting, good to see that heath and safety was being properly adhered too.

Good work, not sure about those black balls.. they look like some sort of sex toy

Really glad I got in here before it got well locked down a few years ago, it's sad that it's not being saved but it realy was falling to pieces after 10 years of neglect and no security.
