Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to explore here, the first visit was too public, access is, how you say, interesting, but do-able. Second visit late at night there were some neds inside smashing glass, hopefully my shouting "ARMED POLICE" and throwing snowballs at the boards got rid of them , but I didn't fancy bumping into them as I was on my own so hotfooted it out of there. Be back eventually, I hope.

does it have a tower and central buildings as well? i can't tell the layout or size from the pics and google turned up something that looked too small to be it..

No tower, it's pretty small as asylums go I guess. Basically the whole building is in the last two pictures, boiler house at the rear apart. I'm assuming it was built to supplement the much larger Perth District Asylum which is mostly demolished now.:(

The top door (to the right and on the ramp) is boarded over (iirc) but the lower door is just strapped shut with a few nails.

Problem is? The lower door is very, very visible from the road (with the drive in entrance being just beside it).

I'm a bit confused about the layout of the mortuary - either it's just the top that's actually the mortuary (and the bottom is a store or something) or the top is the prep. area / pathology and there is a body elevator inside. Gartloch mortuary had a system like that (body storage was in the basement) - maybe this is similar?

I'm thinking that the strapped up side door was where the meat-wagon would pull up and 'collect'. What do you reckon?
