Harperbury Hospital, Radlett - July 2011

A visit with Marlon, primarily with the intention of seeing one or both of the infamous padded cells. I saw the padded playpen several years ago, but have never seen either cell. This trip didn't disappoint and the cell was located. I saw the pool again and, as ever, it left me uninspired!

All seemed perfectly quiet on site, until we left. Just as we had made the decision to go and were packing up, we heard an unusual noise. After a moment's thought, I suggested that it sounded suspiciously like an electric drill... someone was boarding up! A hasty retreat followed!


Marlon's wheelbarrow... apparently it's been strung up there for some years now!

Trying to get in or out?!

It's not the most beautiful hospital, nor the most interesting, but it has some nice bits left, a padded cell, and that incredible derelict hospital smell

Some nice shots there, I agree you can't beat that smell of dereliction

Nice one Lula, some great shots there. Didn't ever think a return would be on the books but it seems like the demo workers felt a bit worn out after flattening just one villa?

Nice work, did you not check out the two storey units across the main hospital road from the padded cell section?

No, not this time! We wanted to move on to another couple of sites. Turned out to be fails so we should have spent more time investigating Harperbury!

Iv been there twice now and never found the cell, could someone tell me which building it's in as iv been in them all and still no luck lol

You can't have been in all of them then!
Get yourself back down there for another look as it's definitely still there!
