Stone House Hospital also known as the City of London Asylum. Visited with Immortal Owl earlier this summer. Since it was such a long was South, we decided to check in as voluntary patients for the night. Was awoken the next day with an almighty racket going on inside the hospital as security clomped about looking for another group of explorers who wern't exactly stealth like. Anyways we waited for the storm to pass then got on with the explore.

Inside the hospital we could see where the asbestos removal was well under way with blue decontamination tents and removal equipment set up on the ground floor.

On with the photos....

This next photo is the training room where nursing staff learnt how to use control and restraint on each other so that they could deal with aggressive patients on the wards.

Wow! Another absolute gem. I'd love to see this place. Is that a theatre on one of the pix? It's hard to see properly cos I'm having to view on a phone and I can't blow it up. Great work!

Smashing pics! Been keeping an eye on this place, but its got a fierce fence surrounding it, did you see the derelict housing estate next to it, old staff housing I think.

It was one i had planned to do but the distance is a perhaps a little far, unless I decide on a little trip Nice shots mate:)

more info on the hospital

At their committee meeting, Dartford Borough Council’s elected members gave 100% support to P J Livesey and Ward Homes joint redevelopment proposals for the former Stone House Hospital in Dartford, Kent.

The members had attended an open evening at the site in the preceding weeks, as Stone House was deemed to be one of the most important applications the committee would determine this year.

Both P J Livesey and Ward were overwhelmed by the support given by the members at the committee meeting, with many of the members applauding the conversion proposals and welcoming the development team to the borough. Members described feeling very lucky to have P J Livesey on board, and suggested that if they failed to give scheme approval they be doing an injustice to the site and Dartford itself after the company did such a good job at Ingress Abbey which is also located within the borough.

They even stated that despite a number of buildings being demolished to make the scheme viable, they were heartened and surprised that P J Livesey managed to save so much of the original hospital, and the approach and the skills involved are a credit to the company.

P J Livesey will convert the Grade II listed former hospital buildings into 93 homes, the chapel into offices, together with 51 new build properties. The existing green spaces, including substantial airing grounds will also be retained and enhanced. Ward Homes will construct a further 116 new homes on previously developed land on the site. Our development partners also include Moat Housing and the Homes and Communities Agency.

With the full support of the committee, Dartford BC resolved to grant planning and listed building consents subject to finalising the section 106 agreement. P J Livesey are seeking a start on site in August.

Glad to hear it's getting converted, hopefully this'll be another asylum that gets saved. Very nice pics as well.
