Sleeping Secca Hospital
January 2013

Since I was little, I have loved the thought of walking around a building that's in the process of being demolished so this for me was a great little explore!

I visited this South Wales General Hospital during it’s final demolition phase and I was so pleased to be able to see at least part of this once buzzing South Wales Hospital.

This hospital first opened in 1917 but on September 12th 1929 fire damaged the historic building and took the lives of two firemen. The hospital was reconstructed and officially opened by the Duchess of York in April 1933.

I had attempted to visit this site sometime ago but with 24 hour security, Night Vision CCTV and guard dogs, it proved to be a tricky one but after hearing of it’s current state (mid demoltion) I knew I had to make the effort to at least see what was left.

Named “Sleepy Secca Hospital” after I stumbled across the sites security staff snoring away in their cabin!

Wicked photos dude! Living the look and feel of your site too, the thumbnail to full size thingy is very swish!
So, one question we all want to know... Where's the photo of the sleeping secca? :p

Cruella de Vil on the wall - very cheeful!

Love the shot of the half-demolished corridor, I remember the ones at West Park where you'd just walk out into the middle of a sea of rubble!

Looking good :) you do seem to be drawn to demolition sites dont you... Billy Banks springs to mind :)

Thanks guys! :)

Cheers dude, the site is very much a working progress, I have very little time at the moment and about 30 reports to add to it!

Ah the secca, bloody shock and a half to see him there, he had a dog too which barked like mad until I got out of site, I decided to not post it after the problems I had from the secca at Billy Banks, god that was an issue... car chases, death threats and thats just what happened away from the estate!! Well that and it turned out a big blur lol!

I have no idea what the attraction is! Billy Banks was insane though... I was inside one block as the one right next door was being brought down! Lucky mind, about 5mins after getting out, the whole block came down

Aww, but that was one of the best portraits I've ever seen!
Ah well, will wait with baited breath for remainder of your pics!

Cheers for the comments all. Its not a grand place I know but it sure is a great feeling standing in a room where the walls are bending waiting to collapse!

Nice set mate!

I know what you mean about there being something about being in a site that is being demolished around you, I was in West Park, stood in the old hall, when all of a sudden the 'jaws of death' got hold of the wall in front of me and pulled a big section out..queue a quick G.T.F.O!

Nice pics;)

but i wish they'd stop knocking em down:cry:.....went back to see how runwell and st.andrews asylums are doin and both in mid demo so u may wanna check them out!
