Rauceby Asylum Jan 2013

My first visit to a Asylum with a couple of Leic guys.

Not bad for a first time Asylum visit, shame the place is stripped completely of all its internals etc. some nice glazed brick remains on most of the stairway walls. it was nice to see the clock tower still in relatively good condition considering the amount of time it has been left derelict.
Some, very small progress was made to repair the roof of the chapel, just a shame about the insides!
I wont go on with the history as the site has been covered many times..

When i first walked in, i did think it was a real person with no feet! :shocked: until i got closer.

That big old victorian glass house looks interesting as well

Shame, it would be more useful as a community center personally for the locals on the surrounding estates

they are building one of those in the area behind the admin block, it will also have memorials to the hospital for it's RAF and leading mental health roles.
A recent meeting with the developer informed us living here that appart from the admin, chapel, conservatory and 2 houses, the rest is coming down. recent changes to building regs mean that the internal concrete floors are now substandard
