I first explored this place way way back in October 2009, and soon after that the place was comprehensively sealed which stopped any further access in it's tracks...but passing today we saw an opportunity not to be missed so dived straight in.

During the intervening three-and-a-half years since I first did it my photography has improved massively and the site has deteriorated quite a bit more, the water damage was bad in 2009 but it's pretty much total now. I don't think the place has much longer left, but it'll be no great loss as it's still the single ugliest building I've ever explored.

Little bit of history (typing from memory) - The hospital was one of the last additions to the RAF site in Upper Heyford, only being built in 1980. It was pretty much self-contained with a wide variety of hospital services for both the people stationed at the base and the surrounding villages. It closed when the base ceased to function in 1994 meaning it only had a life span of 14 years, there was talk of keeping it open as a hospital after closure but this never went ahead.

It's also very very dark in here, as almost the entire ground floor is breezeblocked up, and 90% of the interesting stuff is situated right in the middle where there are no windows anyway....which makes taking decent photos a challenge

Thanks for looking, more here http://www.flickr.com/photos/mookie427/sets/72157633181604772/ :)

Nice work mookster. Not seen a report from the inside of here for a long time...

Thanks :) Yeah the last set of photos I can remember from here were my own way back in October 2009 (which were crap!) soon after that it was sealed very well indeed.

Cheers...it is a good mooch, it's spent a longer amount of time derelict than it did open!
