Zachary Merton Convalescent Home: 1937 – 1999 / 2006

Trust grant helped to build the largest of the recovery homes out of 8 in woodhouse eaves.

NHS took it on in 1987, closed it in 1999 and sold it to private care home company [Prime Life] which called it the Bradgate Park Nursing Home.
It closed in 2006 and is now in private hands as a development site.

i have spoken to a close friend of mine that remembers the home when it was fully functional, to be fair he did remove the deceased from the home.
another friend who was offered a job there in 1995 and remembers the home to be a beautiful place with fantastic grounds and as you can see and the photos i have shown to them bear no resemblence from their memories to the pictures and are so very much different and even i have to admit, its such a shame that vandals have destroyed nearly everything inside, but i found a few little gems.
managed to get to the tunnels (asbestos covered pipes) and clamber through them (masks and protection, of course) and explored every level from tunnels to the roof.
so overall a fantastic explore.
i hope you enjoy my first report :)

This place was my first real explore too.
It's such a shame it's ended up this way.
I have seen an otter and some lovely birds in the grounds, that I have never seen before, a lovely location.
Thanks for sharing!
