The water tower at West Park is one of the few remaining bits yet to be redeveloped. Fortunately it's grade II listed and is going to be saved. As the planning application had just gone in for its conversion to what should be a quite unique home, I thought I'd go take a look at what they have to work with.
History: Designed in 1909 by Clifford Smith for London County Council. Built between 1913 - 1921, it stands an impressive six storeys high and used to hold three huge water tanks storing a total of 25,000 gallons.
On with the pics....
Ground floor (always plenty of extinguishers at West Park)
Looking up at the first (and only other) floor
Nice chunky water pipe
Good solid stairs going up, remarkably quite free of pigeon
Aha, opening the closed door to the first floor reveals the deep shag-pile created by years of pigeon residence
Looking up at the three sets of steels which held the water tanks
On reaching the top...
Thanks for looking.
