Hey guys!
This is my first UE since moving to England. A few friends and I formed an Urbex team in Chicago and I just loved it. I haven't been on an explore in a long long time and decided to just go on my own. I figured I don't need to do a history write up on the hospital since it seems everyone else has already done so...and recently. ..if that's ok?
Quick background on me...I'm a commercial/music photographer and moved to the UK for grad school. Doing a MFA in photography and thought I'd put 2 loves together for a project. Urbex and fine art photo. ...seems a bit cliché these days, but it's fun for me to shoot pix of other things than people all the time. I won't post any edited or "fine art" photos here cuz I'll never get the post up in a normal amount of time otherwise. I also want to shoot pix with a 4x5" camera or a medium format. I didn't have them with me this time. I didn't want to go on my first UK explore and drag a ton of gear with me. ...just went in with my Nikon. I'll just stick to "snapshot" photos for this site.
I rented a car and left London in the morning and still got stuck in traffic in the city. And this whole shifting the car with my left hand is just friggin weird, lol.
I don't know anyone that a) has time to go do this with me or b)wants to, so hopefully I'll eventually make friends through these sites because walking around alone is pretty freaky sometimes and obviously it's nice to meet people or hangout with others with similar interests. My bf (who was at work and couldn't go with me) is scared to death that I will get my student visa revoked and deported if I get caught.
Anywho...it turned out to be a really beautiful day and I think I was able to see just about everything there without getting in the way of the construction workers. It's sad how utterly trashed the place is, especially after turning the corner and seeing the row of buildings with piles of rubble in front of them. Glad I got to see the place before it goes!
Not sure where to go next. It took so long for me to get to a location because any place I planned on going seems to be getting demolished right now...very frustrating. Seems like all the epic stuff is way up north too. Hopefully I'll have another report soon.
