I've been out of the loop for several months now, and would be most grateful if someone could inform me of the current situation at Hellingly (in terms of any building damage or security changes over the last year). Thanks!

Mechanised, Hellingly has now been bought by a developer and a lot of activity is going on up there. I believe you can still get in but you have to contend with builders/surveyors AND an on-the-ball security force.

I do believe it can be done but if you are going there i would start with the small annexe halfway up the drive as its a bit more out of the way.

Fieldy, Ether & me got busted big time earlier on in the year. Police dogs -stop & search! As Mr. Bones says, best to leave ya car well clear of the main Hospital road, start at the Acute Satelite wing, and make ya way "commando style" through the undergrowth! Although security are actively repairing the flimsy "herras" fencing and boarding up windows, it's worth a look.
Hope you get in to see it before another one bites the dust

P.s. -if you need any pointers with regards to layout of the place etc, feel free to PM me

Thanks very much for the replies - they were both extremely helpful. It sounds like things have changed quite a bit from last year. Luckily I got to see it all last March, so it's perhaps not worth the risk and long journey this time around (I was just thinking of giving someone a tour). It seems like there are very few asylums left now that are reasonably accessible, sadly! This person's already visited Cane Hill and Severalls with me so there's not much left to show.

No worries buddy. Planning a return trip to Denbigh Asylum in Wales. If you're interested, feel free to PM me for details ;)
Access is pretty easy (unless you end-up getting in there at 2 in the morning!!):eek:
