    Arrow St Peter's Mortuary - Chertsey - October 2014

    The History:
The mortuary, built in the 1940′s, is a small, rectangular building on the outskirts of the main Hospital site and closed in April 2009 when the mortuary relocated to the main hospital building. Inside, there’s a small chapel and viewing room with the rest of the building comprising of body fridges and the main autopsy room.

    The Explore:
Just after finishing off at another site relatively close by, we decided to tick this one off the list with it being so close. The site is in a pretty poor condition but still made for a good explore nonetheless.

Visited with CatVstyle which made an enjoyable day out!

These places always intrigue me but disturb me at the same time knowing what they're used for etc.

    Great shots

This brings back some memories. Before a change of career from medicine to aviation, I did my path exams here. It was a lot more modern inside than it looked from the outside, and a world away from the marble slabs that still exist today, but were more prevalent then. It was a busy place as you can see from the number of fridges. There was also a freezer for the really bad cases or those that were just not collected. My lasting memory is the luxury of height adjustable tables! Lovely if, like me, you are taller than most. Then again, my professor was very short, so it was win win really. Anyway, thank for a trip down memory lane!
A glooming peace, this morning with it brings. The sun for sorrow dare not show its face

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
