After seeing Lightbuoy's excellent recent report on this place, i was very keen to see it for myself.

Following the official DP meetup i was still in the mood for a long drive and wanted to meet up with Jaff_Fox who couldn't make it to the other locations.

Eventually after a huge trek down from North Wales we had arrived with barely any room to park at the side of the road. Following Lightbuoys very helpful tips we snuck in to one of the wards, the building was very welcoming. Little sign of vandalism and some very grand wood panelling and varnished doors.

After a short time we had worked out that we were stuck in 1 ward block and had to go back out to get to the rest of the hospital. We had spotted someone in the courtyard having a leisurely sit down so we explored the next ward block waiting for him to disappear. Eventually we progressed into the canteen and pool room to the main hall. It was very grand, yet on a smaller scale than most. It had survived being abandoned in good shape.

We progressed round the hospital and noted the huge amount of bats flying around. They were swooping right upto us and then disappearing.

Eventually wemade it to the room that contained medical equipment from the hospitals original museum, it was really interesting to see and surprisingly everything was in great condition.

Limited by time we had to make our way out, but not before trying 'mid wales forbidden apples' - absolutely delicious, 2 large apple trees and nobody to eat the fruit. What a crime!

here are the photo's, enjoy!

Brilliant stuff Mr B.
I'm still amazed at all the wooden doors there and that shutter is so lovely, even with it's own recess in the wall...so quirky. Love the gif.
Was the bat dead? Aaaaah, poor thing! I love bats.

Cheers :)
Mmmmm...apples. :D

cool pics and find guys!!
the place reminds me a bit of severalls, hellingly and that st johns in lincoln...
hospital museum?! you don't get many of those to the pound i must say. quite the unusual find. :)

An excellent report with superb pics as usual Mr Bones :)
Glad that you got to see this place. Missed the area with Victor's room. Did you get to see the Wards that we couldn't get in (due to there not being a door handle?) :( -it was at the end of the Ward with the museum, just past the pink kitchen. Looked like there was a piano in there.
Awwwww, isn't that pig cute -is he your lucky explore mascot?:lol::mrgreen: The bats must have taken a liking to you, as the only one we saw was the one that had popped it's cloggs (pic 12)

Well done -enjoyed looking through your pics :)

Lb:cool:

Lovely pics Mr B, liking all the wooden doors and the shutter. The hall looks good, and love the settee in the corridor. Was there any more? lol. How much stuff is left in the old museum? it's a shame that its closed. (then again, it would seeing as the hospital is now closed).

Cheers,

:) Sal

ps. awww, on the poor bat. How many were there?

I am currently setting up a website dedicated to the Mid Wales. If you would care to visit, join the forum, add content such as photos, stories, visits etc I would be very grateful!

It is only in its early stages but it is the bits and bobs donated by others that the site can really develop. So please if you are willing to let any of your photos to be on the main photos page (with your copyright of course) that would be great.
I have a memory card full of photos but the lead is currently letting meput the photos to my pc.
