Location
Down there somewhere
Since I overhauled our website and removed all our topside locations I've been meaning to add threads for each one here in way of atleast having them online somewhere. No idea how frequently I'll get around to adding them, here's another.

I do not apologise for the quality of the photos! Photography was not then and is not now my reason for exploring.

Colindale General Hospital - May 2004

From 1900 - 1913 it was known as Hendon Asylum, 1913 - 1919 Hendon Infirmary, and previous to both these it operated as the Central London sick Asylum, quite a title for the little place. In my opinion Colindale was one of those 'Happened to be in the area' type locations, and well? We were.

Other than the Admin block and a great little house, most of the buildings on site were externally some what uninspiring. This was't helped at all by the expanse of corrugated iron sheeting that covered the windows, provoking visions of third world shanty towns. Inspite of this, internally Colindale offered much more of interest.

At the time it was, other than a handful of broken windows and the odd bit of tagging. It's been further secured since '04, whether that was in response to it getting a bit trashed I'm not sure?

I visited late in 2004, and it was starting to get very trashed by the local kids. Lots more broken windows etc. I recon its very likely that the crackdown was in response to the damage.

Hi Jd

Looks a very grand place and a interesting explore, looks like the ivy is trying to inhabit it now. Nothing wrong with the pics you took I thought they were very good. Was the place hard get into?

Admin looks gorgeous, such an imposing building, but beautiful at the same time. Love those stained glass doors in the admin entrance and all the tiles. Is the whole of Admin like this? If it is, I'd be spending hours just taking pictures of that, and wouldn't have ventured anywhere else, I'd have been too busy. It looks like most of the hospital records are all still there. If anything gets demolished etc, i really do hope that Admin isn't one of them. Love the clock on the front building and the tower on top. awesome.

Cheers JD

:) Sal
