    Arrow Severalls Asylum - Colchester

Severalls asylum has taken some beatings within the last couple of years from arson, natural decay and the elements... here are some photos from my last few visits... heres some history on the site... visited with jonboy and RA

    Built 1910
    Opened 1913
    Closed 1997
Severalls was based on the 'Echelon Plan' Where the offices, Admin and wards were in reach of each other connecting them via interconnecting corridors. The Accomodation blocks soon followed the hospital being built between 1910 and 1935.. The hospital was then shut down due to the closures of a range of psychiatric institutions. Severalls is a typical design for an asylum from that day and age, with a lot of others i.e. Hellingly or Cane Hill finding the Corridor design very useful. The current status of the site is in the air at the moment.. Planning permission has apparently gone through but construction will not start for a while yet. An amazing explore if anyone has a chance to do it.

    Bit of light painting

Nice shots of the bramble through the window and the clock face.

    Cheers :)

    Hi Midnight, Interesting stuff

I've picked out the photos that I think work within the set.

Yes I like the corridors as well as the ones I mentioned. They've got a lovely feel to them. It is nice to see something a bit different. :)

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
