I wasn't sure what to pick to post as my first report here, but since my visit to this place spawned a nice crowd asking for directions and trying to get in I thought you'd also enjoy it.

The hospital opened in 1866 with initial capacity of 200 patients and became one of the leading mental health institutions in Scotland after few extensions added over the years. One noteworthy change was adding a "Child and Family Psychiatry" unit to cater for children, teenagers and their families.

The hospital was famous for its open door policy the first chief physician strongly believed in, and which was continued by his successors.

The most interesting bits were windows painted by the patients and at least a couple of hundred of dead birds scattered on all floors. We found an open door to the gym hall where they seem to be flying from and locked it, hopefully sparing few from starvation.

It remains disused however it shares a site with an entire new complex, so getting in without bumping into security, patients or nurses strolling around is a bit tricky.

Nice photographs. Picture three shows a seat with a safety belt. Picture 28 shows a seat which I'm sure is for taking private telephone calls.

Incredible set of photos there, I really like that style, has a kinda of 'silvery' quality to it.

I really enjoyed my visit here.this is prob my favourite set I have seen from here.very imaginative.and a bit different.i am guessing you used a nice quality prime judging at the sharpness of the pics

Thanks for the comments, I visited the place twice. First with a friend (he's not on the forum) and again to show it to a couple of folks visiting. The chair on the 28th photo is a chair scale, I guess they had trouble weighting disabled patients so they used it. Shame it's already trashed. :(

All taken with a zoom lens by the way. :)
