Excuse the slight misspelling of the title but you are supposed to have a permit to work to access this part of one of Bristol's Hospitals not just be an employee. Paretree drop is an service duct carrying steam pipes and electricity cables from one part of the hospital site across to the other.

It starts at the top of a lift shaft and drops 3 1/2 storeys down.

Pipe work at the top. The thick black pipe is a Lamson tube carrying patient samples across to Pathology

Steps down

Looking left from the bottom of the steps the corridor apparently stops.

but in reality turns a corner then goes down another floor. I didn't want to venture too far as there is asbestos further on down here.

I heard voices and at the end of this section I realised I wasn't as far down as I thought because I could look down through a section of ceiling

Thie passage turned left here and went down another ladder into a room containing computerised switchgear.

I think the corridor goes on from here but being on my own and knowing there is asbestos in some of the far reaches I thought it wise to call it a day here.

Very interesting. At The Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne I recently watched workers constructing similar passageways to this on a new wing they were building. It just goes to show there's a stack more to hospitals than meets the eye.
