Visited last night with a few friends.
This hospital was closed in 1997, and specialized in the care and treatment of Downs syndrome sufferers. It was founded by John Langdon down in 1868 for people with Learning difficulties.
At the moment it sits in a decayed state, having been heavily vandalised and graffed to fuck over the years.
Pictures!

Hasn't most of it been redeveloped into flats?

I used to pass this on the 281 bus in 1998 just after it had closed

Yeah, the site used to be a lot bigger, and most of it has been turned into flats. Think there is also a school for children with downs syndrome on the site or nearby. The main building is listed and i think is going to be turned into a hotel and flats. Think the site was sold, but the company didnt have money to redevelop it. One of the coppers i spoke to said something about the drains being inadequate due to other local building developments and so not much was happening with Normansfield at the moment

;)

Great report backed up with some moody shots. Like the way you caught the nighttime sky -spooky! Good effort matey. Shame about being nabbed on the way out (still, better than happening on the way in I guess!) ;) The clock tower looks like a real gem there.

I really like your photos. As Lb said, nice and moody, especially the outdoor ones. Liking the bright colours of the indoor ones too...seems to suit the graf and condition of the place. Love that spider on the wall at the top of the stairs.

I cant believe its got into that state over the past couple of years...when we went back a couple of years ago, there was NO graff whatsoever...such a shame...
