Visited with ukmayhem and wifebeater. Many thanks for a great day, spent a good 6odd hours inside the main hospital. It's nice to see a site in such good condition, not having been torched by the local filth.

On with the pics as the history has already been posted recently.

The majority of the hospital was incredibly brightly coloured:

Really good set there randomnut, i have been through your set on Flickr too!

We were there recently too! Captured the place well.

whats the machine for with all the levers?perhaps for shock treatment!i hope not:confused:

Good pics but the place is getting done to death. Wish you would get the place right though it's Cholsey not Moulsford, that is a village two miles away;)

Isn't Fairmile itself several miles away from the hospital? The naming doesn't make much sense really!

My mistake I guess the fact it opened as Moulsford Asylum threw me off a bit

Threw you off a lot mate your title says Fair Mile Asylum, Moulsford which would to me indicate that it was in that village when it is in Cholsey but then considering you come from miles away you would not have noticed the sign as you came in the village.
Little bit of history for you. The site was bought for £8,317 4s 9d in 1866 and was built by the architect C.H.Howell of Lancaster place London at a cost of £68,000 , you could not buy a house round here for that now. It was also called the Berkshire,Reading and Newbury Lunatic Asylum before being called Mouslford asylium and Berkshire mental hospital.
I doubt the Moulsford bit stayed around long as Moulsford was not happy about the railway station being named after them and it became Cholsey and Moulsford when the Station moved.
I have a booklet called Fair rmile hospital a pictorial history which was printed back in 2003 when it closed that I could make into a PDF and some photo's of the place when my parents worked there though I have to find them.

Nice report guys looks like whoever was in the cell thing really wanted to be out judging by the scratch marcks on the window

i have not logged on for a a week or so, there are so many good Hospitals & Asylums places just poped up. i can't wait to take my driving test soon :)
